What an amazing location this is for a physician who wants to live in the quintessential New England atmosphere of antique shops and Currier and Ives vistas surrounded by lovely mountain locales.  This position is tailor made for either a graduating resident with interest in dedicated community medicine or a boarded physician who wants a less frantic practice environment.  As part of a larger health system, this hospital ED enjoys excellent back-up and serves the area as a critical care access facility.  The ED sees about 14,000 patients annually and is covered by a peer group of EM boarded physicians 24/7 on single coverage with additional mid-level coverage during peak times between noon and nine daily.  The ED is spacious and the physical plant pleasant.  It includes a dedicated Fast Track and enjoys great turn around times for both radiology and labs.  Physicians average 1.5 to 2.0 patients per hour on both 8 and 12-hour shifts.  The department is fully computerized with electronic medical records and physicians dictate directly into the system.  Radiology is located adjacent to the ED with 16-slice CT and PACS digital imaging.

Centrally located by one of the major highways in western Mass, this department sees its share of vehicular trauma and a strong mix of patient pathology.  Over 80% of the hospital admissions come from the ED. 

An incoming physician will earn a guaranteed salary of $206K with additional incentive compensation of over $10K.  Based on a 36-hour clinical work week, the benefits package includes nine weeks of paid leave resulting in 1,548 hours per year.  Benefits also include $4,500 for CME, over $18K in family health and dental insurance, long and short term disability, dues and subscriptions stipend and a defined retirement program that starts at just over $9K per year and increases with years of employment.  The hospital also provides occurrence coverage that includes tail.  The full package is an impressive $282K, outstanding for the region.  There is also strong growth potential on this position as well as the possibility of loan assistance.
